A little girl's room

One of the many, many great aspects of having a girl is getting to decorate her room. That is before she wants pink and purple everywhere, not my favourite colours at all.

And her mama loves to go in there and place things here and there. Decorate it, arrange it, rearrange it, and start again. Oh, how much fun! This is a glimpse of its present state at the moment. It won't last for long.

Totally obsessed

I have to admit it. There is another man in my life. I'm totally and utterly obsessed by him. Since he entered my life he's being keeping me awake at night and can't stop thinking about him during the day. His name is Jack. Because of him I've stopped watching telly, reading, crafting, drawing, looking at blogs and talking to my husband (although he actually approves and also loves Jack, in a different kind of way, of course!). So now that I've admitted my love affair, let me tell you something about 24. It's the kind of series a girl should hate: ludicrous violence, endless action shots, plenty of chases and runs, no much human emotion and not many happy endings. But what about those crafty and very, very clever plots? There's some serious genius minds behind this programme and that is so refreshing to watch. So many twists and turns that you can't predict. I absolutely, totally adore it.

Thanks a lot to Graca for these lovely, lovely postcards she sent me and I received today. She not only paints the most amazing pictures but she has the most colourful house ever. I just love her sense of colour.

Assignment #2

It has taken me a while to get round to do this assignment but once I started I couldn't stop. I had been sent a black glossy envelope by some bank and when I opened it it was red inside, so.. I immediately thought I could start cutting and see. I started with a square, and then another, and another...

And then I gave it the photoshop treatment (my favourite toy at the moment!)


And then I got hooked...



Mmm, very, very satisfying indeed.

Working on improving my sewing skills

Last week I finally finished this...

That's the chair cover, by the way. It came with the most horrid material and hideous pattern and I've been meaning to change it since Ana got the dolly pushchair for Christmas. It's the same material I used for this, an although it took me a while to work it out (with my very poor sewing skills) I'm pleased with the results. Oh, a while ago I also made the blue teddy and as you might have recognised I used a Wee Wonderfuls pattern. Finally, let me just show you this cute duvet I made using a pillowcase from Zara home I bought last Summer.

Ana is very good with her new caring skills.

Just remind me to make some sort of mattress, as that poor dolly is going to have terrible back ache!

A brilliant assignment

Have you ever seen Natascha S. Rosenberg's blog? I love her work and she does cute stuff like this . So today reading her blog she says that she will try to do this (look at Jan 10 entry)
And these assignments got me thinking. Assignment #1 seems to be perfect for me. I love to find, gather and collect natural stuff when I go for walks by the sea

And so far I have just left them around the house with no purpose, they are just there for me to be able to admire daily their natural beauty. Penelope's idea is great so I'll post soon what I may do with the stuff I've gathered.

Grey days

Today it was one of those English grey days where the sky seems to sit on top of you like a heavy brick oppressing you. Everything here seems dimmed and grey and flat, and there's not texture in objects around. People look pale and bleak and lifeless. Even after having lived in this country for 14 years I still feel oppresed by days like these. I miss sunny clear-skied Madrid winter days. Oh, how I miss them!

I don't like grey days. I want black (rainy) or white (sunny) days. So with that thought in mind, I took out the cow I made a while ago to show her the depressing view. She didn't like it either.

January

This is the January page of my new calendar. When I saw it I had to buy it. I love Miffy. There's something about the simplicity of her design and her colours that really appeals to me.

2007

So 2007 has started and I forgot to do the customary new year's resolutions. Well maybe I didn't forget, maybe I didn't want to face making a list of things I should be doing but I never get done. In any case one of the things it should be in that list is this blog. I say to myself that this blog is a way of making me do something outside my two main roles: being a mum to Ana and teaching (oh and being a wife to Anadad, of course!) At the moment I have this strong need to be creative, you know: I need to make something! Don't be mistaken, I'm pretty rubbish at it but I still make. So my 2006 birthday present was a sewing machine and that was the start. I suppose for the last few months I've been making some stuff and it's a beginning but usually I feel it's not good enough and not worthwhile showing. So I was very pleased today when I saw that gentlytiptoe is showing some softies I made as Christmas presents. Thanks Hannah! And now I need to return the favour... Now, this is proper stuff:

Christmas 2006

We had a truly wonderful time at grandma and grandpa's this Christmas and it was great for Ana to spend time with her cousins. She really loved it! So this is a summary of what we did:

We ate sprouts...

We ate apples...

We chatted and ate more apples...

We opened presents...

a lot of presents...

We played...

We went to the zoo...

we crafted...

We even had some fairies visiting!

Red and White and fairy lights

The tree is up at last. This year I was in a bit of a dilema because somehow I started to feel a bit weird about the whole thing of having a tree at home. You know, a strange feeling knowing there is this tree slowly dying in front of your eyes, and just there, in your living room. The poor thing being loaded with crystal balls and other knick knacks and literally strangled with plenty of fairy lights. Not pleasant. Anyway I did a bit of research and worked out that a potted tree would be the best choice. Potted trees are trees have been dug up with their roots and potted into a peat and sand mix. Apparently, it is therefore very unlikely that these trees will continue to live after Christmas even if relocated outside. But, I don't know, at least I feel it has a change, 50/50 the lady I bought it from said. Because potted trees are quite small I used the felt decorations my mum made for Ana last year, so the tree has not much weight to carry.

So I had to find a place for the heavier balls

Now we need more fairy lights. Loads and loads. I just love them. I can't get enough of them. Something like this would do
